02 / What we are building

A compact optical sensor for cerebral blood flow.

Rhyos is an early-stage company. We are working on a sensor intended to measure blood flow in the brain from outside the head, without a scanner or an implanted probe.

We want to measure flow itself, rather than oxygenation as an indirect measure. The work is in development and pre-market. Nothing is for sale, and we are not making a clinical claim.

03 / How it may work

Light, motion, and depth.

The technical idea combines near-infrared light and interferometry. The aim is to recover flow at different depths and distinguish brain signals from the scalp.

    Light in

    Near-infrared light is sent into tissue from outside the head.

    Signal out

    Interference in the returning light carries information about moving blood cells.

  3. 03

    Separate depth

    The intended method separates shallower scalp signals from deeper brain signals.

The method has been tested on the bench and in tissue-like models. Building the compact instrument and validating its measurements are the next parts of the work.

Build the instrument. Test the signal. Compare it carefully.

We are reducing technical and practical uncertainty one step at a time.

We are an early team of two, building the instrument and the company together. We try to be clear about what has been shown and what still needs testing.
